The Al Qiblatain Mosque, also known as the “Mosque of the Two Qiblas”, is a historic site located in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
Allah ordered the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to change the direction of prayer from Jerusalem (Al Quds) to Mecca while in this mosque. This event is mentioned in Sura 2 of the Koran, verses 142 to 144.
The Al Qiblatain Mosque is located north-west of the city of Medina, on the Khalid bin al-Waleed road.

Why is the mosque called Qiblatain?
The Qiblatain Mosque (meaning “the mosque of the two Qiblas”) was so named because it was the place where the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) received divine revelation to change the direction of prayer (qibla) from Jerusalem to the Kaaba in Mecca.

What is the history of the Qiblatayn mosque?
The mosque was built by Sawad ibn Ghanam ibn Ka’ab in Hegira 2 (623 CE) and is one of the few mosques in the world to have contained two mihrabs (niches indicating the qibla) in different directions. In 1987, under the reign of King Fahd, the mosque was completely demolished and rebuilt.
