Why is the Valley called Wadi al Jinn?
Wadi al Jinn, also known as Wadi al-Baida, is a valley located around 30 kilometers northwest of Medina. It is surrounded by hills, forming a natural egg-shaped basin. What makes this valley so intriguing is the presence of phenomena, often associated with jinn.
The valley’s most famous phenomenon is the ability of vehicles to move without the driver’s intervention. Many believe that this enigma is linked to the presence of djinns who inhabit the region. It is not uncommon to see cars moving without engines, reaching impressive speeds without any human intervention. Locals even report hearing mysterious voices after dark.
While some attribute these events to supernatural forces, others put forward scientific explanations, notably the optical illusion caused by the valley’s unique topography. The gentle slopes create the impression that the land is rising when it is actually falling, a phenomenon also known as “reverse gravity”.
For the curious, Wadi al Jinn (Wadi al-Baida) offers much more than mysteries. Visitors can camp here, explore the surrounding mountains or even try the experience of turning off their car engine to observe its surprising movement.
